Commemoration events in Grozny, Chechnya
The Chechen Civil Society Forum is today beginning its commemoration of the 23rd February 1944 deportation. "From deportation til this day - 62 years of
untruth about the Chechens" will be the principal theme of the events organised by Forum representatives based in Chechnya and Ingushetia: Chechen Society, Memorial, SNO and the State Library in Grozny.
On 22nd February a round-table event at the State Library in Grozny will highlight this subject, discussing the anti-Caucasian discrimination that
pervades the atmosphere and, especially, the media in Russia. Participants at this event are local NGOs, representatives of the cultural and press Ministries and MPs.
On 23rd February itself, a demonstration at the Memorial Complex in central Grozny will be held at 11am.
